While working for various customers during the 1990’s, Mark Havel started another business that stemmed from his forestland ownership in the coast range mountains of Oregon. After designing some tools for his own use and using them for selective harvesting and thinning of his timber stands, Mr. Havel incorporated Future Forestry Products inc. as a manufacturer and direct marketer of this low impact equipment. The FFPi equipment line answered the need for low cost, low impact equipment that was sorely needed as all of the machinery in the world seemed only to get bigger. The large size, great cost and high impact of modern logging equipment essentially prohibited forest landowners from doing stewardship operations on their lands, which ran hand in hand with the do-nothing approach of federal and state forestry entities of the same time. Future Forestry Products Inc equipment was very well received, with forest landowners, arborists and even national parks purchasing Log Arches and pruning equipment for forest stewardship operations. FFPi was sold in 2006, to Logrite tools of Tolland CT, who continue to manufacture the FFP log arch line and pruning saws to the continued satisfaction of their customers.
